If you’ve spent any time on South Lamar, I’m sure you have noticed the crowds that congregate and hang out at the SoLa Food Court located across from Lamar Square Drive. If you’re wondering what this food trailer craze is all about, look no further than the three food trailers that make up the SoLa Food Court (Odd Duck, Trey’s Cuisine, Gourdoughs).
Why is the SoLa Food Court So Popular?
There are a number of things that make the SoLa Food Court the perfect late night hangout. There are plenty of tables for you and your crew to sit back and enjoy your favorite BYOB. Its a great place to meet people from all over Austin, Texas and tourists from all over the world. But, the thing that draws people from near and far is the unique and variety of top notch food that’s served from these tin cans on wheels.
The Trailers
You’ve got 3 to choose from at the SoLa Food Court.
Odd Duck Farm to Trailer
Odd Duck Farm to Trailer is a gourmet feast on wheels. Brought to you from the same chef/owner of the popular Barley Swine restaurant, Odd Duck offers an ever changing menu with 100% of the food coming from local vendors and farms. Where else in Austin can you get dishes like….Parmesan Grits with Duck Egg, Pork Belly Slider Peppers or Quail with Sauerkraut for $6 or less?
Trey’s Cuisine
Trey’s (formerly Pick up Stix) brings you tastes from all over the world. Most people go to Treys’ for their fantastic kabobs. Choose from steak, lamb, chicken, pork or veggie and one of their out of this world sauces. If you’re looking for something a little different, try their Steak mac croquette sliders or one of their deep fried pierogi’s.
Gourdoughs
Once you gobble up your quail from Odd Duck or a slider from Trey’s, wash it all down with one of Gourdough’s Big.Fat.Donuts. Don’t expect to get your run of the mill glazed doughnut here. With names like Mother Clucker (doughnut with fried chicken strip and honey butter), The Flying Pig (bacon with maple syrup icing) or the Cherry Bombs (glazed cherry-topped holes, cinnamon, sugar, and cake mix topping) you know your in a whole different sugar overload world.
If you’re looking for something a little different to do than the norm, pick a night and head out to the SoLa Food Court. It may just turn into your regular hang out spot.
